Aircraft Wing Tank Configurations
Rather than re-using the existing jet fuel tanks, a new wing design encompassing cylindrical composite pressure vessels with hemispherical ends could be incorporated. Such cylindrical pressure vessels will be lighter than other designs, with reduced structural material required for the reduced stress. By approximately designing tank’s sized to meet the maximum thickness availability of the Airbus A320 (base model) wing distribution, an initial new wing can be approximately sized.
Alternative tank configurations have also been considered with volume requirements a key issue while maintaining the aerodynamic integrity of the design
